Backbrain is operated by Evolution Trading Technologies Pty Ltd (ACN 696 687 564), a company registered in Australia. The app is built around the idea that your medication data is yours. We keep it on your device. Servers are used only for the parts that genuinely need them: pairing with a partner and sending one notification when a dose is missed.
Your medications, schedules, dose-event history, streaks and reminder windows are stored only in the local database on your phone. They are never uploaded to our servers. They are never shared with third parties. Signing out does not wipe this data — it is only removed if you choose Delete Account from Settings → Profile.
An anonymous user identifier we generate when you first open the app. An optional display name you enter so a partner sees your name on their alert. A push messaging token so partners can reach you with a notification. Pairing codes you generate (8 characters, expire in 24 hours, deleted after use). The existence and status of any partnership you create.
You do not need to sign in to use Backbrain. The app works fully anonymous on the device. Signing in with Apple is offered only as a way to recover your partnerships on a new device if you ever need to. If you do sign in, your Apple identifier is stored alongside the same per-user data described above. You can sign out at any time without losing your medications or dose history.
Medication names, doses, scheduled times, log timestamps, adherence percentages and streak counts are never sent off your device. When a partner is alerted that you missed a dose, the message contains only the name you entered during onboarding (or "your friend" if you skipped that step). It does not contain the medication.
Backbrain relies on third-party providers to operate. These include providers for sign-in, our cloud database for partnership state, server-side processing for partner alerts, push delivery and subscription billing through the App Store. We do not use analytics, tracking or advertising services.
You can delete your account from inside the app at any time via Settings → Profile → Delete account. This wipes your on-device data, ends any active partnership and removes your account from our authentication system. Signing out is separate and reversible: it disconnects your Apple identity from this device but leaves your medications and history on the device. You may also contact us to request a copy of any data we hold about you, or to ask us to correct it.
Backbrain is designed for adults. Parents who use Backbrain to track a child's medication should run the app on their own device, in their own account. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child.
As an Australian-based operator, we comply with the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988. If you have a concern about how we handle your data, contact us first. If we do not resolve it to your satisfaction, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
